About Us
The Story behind Grief,Together
People often ask us why we started Grief, Together.
The answer is rooted in both friendship and purpose.
We've been friends for decades. Through the years, we've celebrated life's milestones together, supported one another through challenges, and watched our lives and careers evolve in different but complementary ways. More recently, our work began bringing us together around one common theme: grief.
Again and again, we found ourselves having conversations with individuals, families, leaders, educators, counselors, and organizations that all revealed the same need.
People care deeply.
They want to help.
They just don't know how.
We realized that while grief is one of the few experiences every person will face, very few of us have ever been taught how to walk alongside someone who is grieving.
So we avoid the conversation.
We worry about saying the wrong thing.
We assume someone else will step in.
And often, the people carrying life's heaviest burdens end up feeling more alone than they should.
That realization became our "why."
We believe grief deserves a broader definition than most of us give it.
Certainly, grief accompanies the death of someone we love. But grief is also found in divorce, infertility, illness, the loss of a job, retirement, an empty nest, a move, the end of a friendship, a shattered dream, or any season when life no longer looks the way we expected it would.
Loss changes us.
And because loss is part of every human story, grief is too.
What if we became better at noticing?
What if we paid closer attention to the people in our families, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, churches, and communities who are quietly carrying loss?
What if, instead of feeling uncertain, we felt equipped?
We believe learning to walk with someone through grief is not reserved for counselors or therapists. While professional support is invaluable, every one of us has the opportunity to become a more compassionate friend, neighbor, teammate, teacher, leader, or family member.
Showing up well is something we can all learn.
That's why we created Grief, Together.
Our mission is simple:
Changing how the world walks with loss.
Everything we do flows from that purpose.
We speak because conversations create awareness.
We lead workshops because confidence grows through learning and practice.
We create resources because people want practical ways to care well.
We partner with companies, schools, nonprofits, churches, healthcare organizations, and community groups because every environment is filled with people navigating loss—whether it's visible or hidden.
Our goal has never been simply to talk about grief.
Our goal is to equip people to care for one another.
Imagine workplaces where colleagues know how to support a teammate after a loss. Schools where students and educators feel seen during seasons of change. Families that are more comfortable talking honestly about grief. Communities where people don't have to wonder if anyone notices they're hurting.
We believe that kind of world is possible.
Not because grief will disappear.
But because compassion can grow.
One conversation.
One relationship.
One community at a time.
We can't eliminate grief from the human experience.
But together, we can change how people experience it.
That's the world we're working toward.
And we'd be honored to walk that journey with you.

Core Values
-
Presence over perfection: We believe people do not need perfect words to offer meaningful support. Showing up with honesty, humility, and care can be one of the most powerful ways to meet someone in grief.
-
Compassion in action: We move beyond good intentions by offering practical, thoughtful support that helps grieving people feel seen, remembered, and less alone.
-
Courageous connection: We help people move toward loss with empathy and confidence, creating space for honest conversations, meaningful connection, and steady support.
-
Dignity in every story: We honor each person’s grief as deeply personal, shaped by their relationships, culture, timeline, and lived experience. We listen without comparison, judgment, or the need to fix.
-
Hope without hurry: We believe hope is not forced, rushed, or used to minimize pain. It is offered gently through presence, patience, and the reminder that no one has to carry grief alone.
-
Equipped communities: We provide language, tools, and training that help families, workplaces, schools, faith communities, and organizations become safer, more compassionate places for people experiencing loss.
